Atamira Dance Company, The New Zealand Dance Company, Footnote Dance and The Royal New Zealand Ballet.

BPSA, Contemporary Dance/GradDip Teaching in Secondary/Contemporary Yoga Teacher Training

Naressa is a contemporary dancer, choreographer, dance and yoga teacher, who has been working within the New Zealand dance industry for the past 18 years.  She graduated from UNITEC in 2004 with a Bachelor of Performing and Screen Arts, majoring in Contemporary Dance.  Highlights as a freelance dancer and choreographer in Auckland were with Vospertron (formerly Vivid Performance Group), as a glowing robot dancer, both nationally and internationally at the Eden Project, Cornwall, England.  For TVA Spectacular dancing with hand held pyrotechnics for corporate events and festivals in front of up to 14,000 people.  Morag Brownlie’s Birds of Paradise sold out seasons 2009/10, and for Shona McCullagh’s Human Agency, where she performed at various festivals, corporate events, film, TV, music videos and commercials.

Naressa gained her Graduate Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) in 2010, and was the Teacher in Charge of Dance at Green Bay High School for three years before heading to Canada to become a snowboard instructor, gaining her level 1 & 2 snowboard certification in 2014.  On return to New Zealand she became the Head of Dance at Mt Roskill Grammar in Auckland before starting at Hagley in October 2015.  Naressa has been the Head of Dance Studies at Hagley since,  Directing the Hagley Dance Company up until 2020, and is the current Director of the Hagley Dance Project.

In January 2019 Naressa completed a 200hr Contemporary yoga teacher training certification in Auckland and has been teaching ever since.  Naressa’s yoga journey started in Florida, USA in 2000, she trained in Ashtanga and Iyenga styles with Felicity Molloy (Limbs Dance Company) and other tutors while at UNITEC.  While on her travels in Canada she trained with the I Am Yoga studio in Sicamous, CA.  Naressa is continually training and upskilling her Yoga knowledge, participating in various workshops, retreats and classes. In 2020 she completed a 13 hour intensive with Donna Farhi on, ‘Yoga for Lower Back ​Health: Keys to Sacroiliac Stability and Ease of Movement’.  Naressa is an inclusive teacher who is passionate about sharing her knowledge.

Hagley DANCE Project is an independent, part-time DANCE technique, choreography and performance course attached to Hagley College in Ōtautahi, Christchurch, Aotearoa New Zealand.  Hagley DANCE Project is an off shoot of the full-time Hagley Dance Company course which celebrated 21 years of providing high quality tuition and Contemporary performance experiences to young people all over the country.  To apply for our 2022 intake, please submit your application form here
